Spiral Step Learning
New for spring 2027:
Spiral Step Learning
Revisit. Retrieve. Retain.
In 2026, approximately one-quarter of pupils left primary school below the expected standard — this meant approximately 162,500 pupils were already behind when they started secondary school.
Our mission is simple: to help develop lifelong readers, creative writers and confident communicators — ensuring all pupils leave primary school with the secure knowledge needed for secondary school, a rich vocabulary and a genuine love of language.
Spiral Step Learning is a new approach that has been influenced by Jerome Bruner's spiral model for learning.
How Is Spiral Step Learning Different?
Spiral Step Learning has been designed by teachers, for teachers so all pupils know more, remember more and are able to do more. It builds on new learning with what has come before by repeatedly revisiting key concepts at carefully-spaced intervals, which gradually increase in complexity.
How Does Spiral Step Learning Fit Into Today’s Educational Priorities?
We are committed to accessibility and inclusivity, to ensure all pupils have an equal opportunity to learn by carefully designing our materials so that everyone can fully engage with our curriculum.
With recommendations from the recent Curriculum and Assessment Review and Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework, we have designed our curriculum to fully align with the standards expected for a high-quality education.
Could Your School Be the Voice That Shapes the Future of Spiral Step Learning?
Our first product, Spiral Step Spelling, launches in spring 2027.
We are currently looking for forward-thinking primary schools to deliver Spiral Step Spelling in Year 5 or Year 6 and become one of our small number of Founding Partner Schools.
Participation is completely free and in return, you will receive all teaching materials for three 30-minute spelling lessons each week for the month of November.
We would love for your primary school to be officially recognised in Spiral Step Spelling's national launch in spring 2027.
